The six Reference Centers of Fiocruz Minas provide services to the Unified Health System (SUS) for epidemiological surveillance of schistosomiasis, leishmaniasis and Chagas disease. In addition to specialized laboratory activities, these centers provide advice and assistance and promote the training of human resources for the system of public health laboratories in the country.
Those accredited as Collaborating Centers of the World Health Organization and Pan-American Health Organization actively participate in different international programs in their areas of scope.

The Reference Center on Vector Competence of Phlebotomine sand flies (CRCVF) provides specialized services to attend to the Brazilian Unique Health System (SUS) and to the Ministry of Health demands. The Center offers technical training on the identification of leishmaniasis vectors and the detection of natural Leishmania infection. It also advises and supports vector control actions implemented by Municipal and State Health Secretariats related to measures and strategies for leishmaniasis control.
