Mission:

The Biosystems Informatics group aims to explore the interface and synergy between several disciplines, including biology, chemistry, statistics, mathematics, computer science and bioinformatics through the development of innovative computational strategies. Our mission it to study and stimulate a general and broad understanding of biological systems integrating basic elements from genomic analysis, transcriptomics, proteomics and structural data, unrevealing the wealth of biological information hidden underneath the  massive amount of data been generated on current days.

In order to achieve such goals, the complexity of biological systems has been explored and studies by our group researchers. We focus on developing and using in silico methodologies to model and integrate large data sets, to guide assertive experimental work and develop applications of biotechnological interest in organisms of relevance for public health.

Research lines:

Bioinformatics and computational genomics (comparative genomics; protein structural disorder; protein interaction networks; immunoinformatics; genomic structural and functional annotation; fragment clustering from sequences generated from different experimental approaches) aiming integrative prospection of genomic and structural data as a way to identify molecules that induce immune response.
Structural Bioinformatics. (computational ligand design; linear and conformational epitope prediction; study of the impact of mutations in protein, their relation with inherited diseases and cancer, and the emergence of drug resistance).
