Mission: To contribute to the discovery of new molecular targets for chemotherapy of Chagas disease and Leishmaniasis, drug resistance mechanisms and molecular aspects of host-parasite interaction using functional analysis and glycobiology of Leishmania spp. and Trypanosoma cruzi.
Principal Investigators: Silvane Maria Fonseca Murta and Rodrigo Pedro Pinto Soares
Diseases: Chagas disease and Leishmaniasis
Research lines:
- Identification of new targets for chemotherapy studies of susceptible and drug-resistant Leishmania spp. and T. cruzi lines using a transcriptomic and genomic approach
- Proteomic and phosphoproteomic analysis of susceptible and drug-resistant Leishmania spp. and T. cruzi lines
- Molecular characterization and functional analysis of the enzymes involved in the antioxidant defense and trypanothione biosynthesis pathway of susceptible and drug-resistant Leishmania spp. and T. cruzi lines
- Transcriptomic analysis of susceptible and drug-resistant Leishmania spp. and T. cruzi lines
- Identification of possible candidates antigens for vaccine against Visceral leishmaniasis using proteomic analysis
- Assays of compounds / extracts with leishmanicide activity
- Search for new drugs with trypanocidal activity using anti-T. cruzi bioassay platform
