Interaction Schistosoma mansoni/vertebrate host & invertebrate/Schistosomiasis
Leaders: Paulo Marcos Zech Coelho and Cristina Toscano Fonseca
Focus:Â Schistosomiasis mansoni
Mission:Â To develop research in Schistosomiasis as to the aspects of biology, developmento of drugs and vaccines, diagnostic methods, parasite-host interaction, and epidemiologic studies in the endemic areas.
Lines of Research:
- Epidemiological aspects of Schistosomiasis mansoni;
- Schistosomiasis association with othe patologies;
- Control of the genic expression during the Schistosomiasis mansoni’s development;
- Parasitologic, immunological, and molecular diagnosis of Schistosomiasis;
- Parasite-host interaction in the experimental Schistosomiasis;
- Introduction of snails resistant to S. mansoni in endemic areas;
- Mechanisms of action of schistosomicides drugs;
- Mechanisms of resistance/susceptibility of  Biomphalaria to Schistosomiasis mansoni;
- Immunological mechanisms connected to the morbidity and resistance to S. mansoni in the experimental Schistosomiasis.
